Saving for a Sunny Day

Saving up for a Sunny day

The snow may be gone, but it is still freezing outside. Now that we are nearing the end of January, it’s time to start thinking about a good summer holiday!
As I didn’t go away last summer, I defiantly need to find some sun this year. My plan is to head to the Spanish island Ibiza in June. So, I better start saving my pennies.
Bar a swim suit and SPF 20, these are my top 5 essentials for a fabulous holiday.

Sunglasses
Ray Ban Wayfarer; enough said!

The Sun Hat
A good sun hat will keep the sun out of your eyes and look very stylish. Last year I had a simple white trilby, this year I think I will get myself this straw hat from Accessorize.

The Body Scrub
To ensure my tan develops and lasts, a good body scrub should be used regularly. I love The Sanctuary’s Salt Scrub. It has Coconut, Jojoba and Sweet Almond oils which leaves you glowing and smelling lush.

The Book
Although most of the natives speak English to accommodate the tourists in Ibiza, I think it is always good to try and pick up new skills and make an effort to speak the native language. So, a Spanish Phrase Book is a must have commodity.

The Beach Bag
This lovely canvas bag isn’t just perfect for holding your sun cream, IPod and beach towel, use it as you regular day bag. I can’t wait to get mine.

Apart from concentrating on saving money for a holiday, I have been pretty busy. I apologise in advance for slower blogs.

Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams looks absolutely stunning in Alberta Ferretti. This is one of my favourite red carpet looks this year. A vintage Hollywood glamourzon!

Italian designer Ferretti always knows how to make an impact with her dresses.

Mrs B vs Fox: Armarni

In October 09, it was announced that actress Megan Fox would take over from Mrs Beckham to be the face of Armarni. There's no doubt Megan is beautiful, she is always at the top of various list and polls for her looks. But personally, I think she is lacking that little something in her new ad campaign. She may be a Fox by name, but lacks the super sex appeal that Victoria Beckham had in her campaigns.

Victoria looked stunning, oozed sex appeal but still had an element of mystery and fantasy about her shots. In the shot below, Mrs B looks like a Vintage Hollywood Goddess. Granted, for Megan Fox, following Victoria would be a hard act for anyone. But for one of the world's most beautiful and sexiest, shouldn't it have been easy?

Another Hollywood actress looking amazing is Eva Mendez. Now thats how you do a fierce campaign!

More Snow

I think that the novelty has slightly worn off now, particularly in London. I can't count how many of my Facebook buddies have made a comment. Yes it may be beautiful but it can also be an inconvience. For example I was planning to go for a nice jog in Battersea Park this morning until I woke up to discover the blankets of white powder. Oh well... Hot chocolate and cookies will have to do :)

Look how pretty the snowy roof tops are in Battersea today. It's a little bit grey and you can barely see Battersea Power Station. But I promise it is there!
Yesterday I popped in to Topshop on Oxford Street. I always love their displays. But this really caught my eye... How cute! I feel like I should be cycling through little winding streets in Holland.

The Notebook

The Notebook is one of my favourite love stories.

Allie Hamilton, a true style icon of the fabulous 1940s.
Ok, i know she's just a character but I adore her style. The 1940's is one of my favourite decades! It was fun and flirty yet simple and elegant.

I've found some cute pieces that I may invest in to recreate The Notebook style.

I found this cute retro red and white polka dot two piece on Figleaves. With high waisted bottoms and a halter neck bra, you can pay homage to Allie Hamilton.
"I'm a bird"

Red leather Mary Jane heels - perfect for dancing the night away to Billie Holiday!

Topshop

I love this adorable bubble tea dress from Topshop.

This blog is dedicated to my friend Kayley, a true romantic at heart!

Happy 2010

This Blogger is back!

I have been very bad, it has been, well let’s say, a while since my last post.

Since my last blog, I have finished interning with InStyle, started freelance assisting a stylist and assisted bi-annual magazine VOLT.

Not content with that, I have just completed a short internship at British Vogue!! So yes, I’ve been pretty busy. And I officially graduate in two weeks! Graduating is scary... Why?? Well it simply means that I will now officially an adult. Not only that, I will be turning 22! Yes, twenty two!

So now I am looking for a job and the graduation outfit. When I have one or both (fingers crossed) I shall update!

But on to a stylish note... Diane Kruger looks absolutely stunning at The People’s Choice Awards. The sleek German actress never seems to disappoint. She wears a white bodycon by Herve Leger.

A budding fashionista - Cheryl Cole

Sorry,
I know I've been particularly bad lately with the blog. No excuses! Well, maybe one or two that may justify my tardiness.

After finishing my placement with Easy Living I was busy helping my sister who had just had a baby - Giulia.

The last week or so however, has been particularly busy. I've started a month placement with InStyle magazine and have just got some amazing freelance work; will release more details soon.

Now back to the main subject of my blog post, Cheryl Cole.
I adore Cheryl Cole! She seems down to earth, fun and she doesn't take herself too seriously. She wears some amazing outfits, she isn't affraid to experiment but to consider her as a Style icon maybe a little premature. I think its only been the last year or so (definitely from the beginning of XFactor) that she has really been noticed for her style.

Maybe in a few years time she'll be up there with the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Grace Jones et al. But for now, Fashionista may just be the right way to describe Mrs Cole.

Take Saturday's Xfactor show, Cheryl wore David Koma. A new designer, fresh and exciting. However her stylist made a huge mistake teaming this unique and gorgeous dress with thigh highs and hooped earrings???? OVER KILL? Too much going on. Not Mrs Cole's fault though!
Nonetheless, each week she has looked amazing!
She looks stunning in this couture piece by Ateiler Versace.
Another piece by Versace.
Do we see a new muse for Donnatella??

And as for another thing - Im Team Cheryl and Team Dannii - Love them both!

Window Displays: Prada

For many years I have been a huge fan of Prada. I love this window display of the Prada store on Old Bond Street next door to the Easy Living Offices.

Going to miss it!

Vauxhall Fashion Scout - Part 2

Sunday continued:
I went to the AOFM party held at Freemasons Hall with some of the girls where we spotted Jodie Harsh who preivously went to the Harriet's Muse Presentation.

The DJ played classic dance tunes like Show me love. There was an open bar, (which I always love) and drank ginger ale and vodka which was actually very nice! But home by 11pm for work the next day.

Monday:
So after finishing work at Easy Living, I headed to Covent Garden for another busy evening. The first catwalk was Ziad Ghanem whos collection was entitled "The Immortalist". This show had the coolest crowd and models!
Next was a special collaboration with Chinese designers known as Fashion Shenzhen.
But the big show everyone was buzzing about was William Tempest!
I was helping out on the door as people were due to take their seats. It really was the craziest show. I bumped into Harper's Bazaar's Carmen Borogovno and Julia Brenard who were two of the first to be seat on the front row. It was very nice to see them and they told me they had been to what felt like millions of shows during the week.
Also on the front row was Caryn Franklin, Colin McDowell of The Sunday Times and other journalists from Instyle and Vogue to name a few.
The show was by far the best I have seen! Beautifully made! Bronze is clearly the metallic colour for SS10 and I cant wait.
Also, just like Mark Fast, William used a plus size model.

Vauxhall Fashion Scout

So I haved worked my last day with Vauxhall Fashion Scout and it's been a long, hard week. I have been part of the Front of House team whicha has been hard at times. but I have been able to seen alot of shows.
Friday:
After working all day at Easy Living I jumped on the Picadilly Line to Covent Garden to join the rest of the team at The Freemasons Hall on Great Queen Street. I spent most of the evening on the stair case directing guests to and from the Presentation Hall where the Body Lab was showing, a presentation by Kingston University MA graduates.

Saturday:
I spent time helping man the front infomation desk with a few other girls. I also managed to see the KANGst show and Bryce d'Anice Aime which was very good - no camera though!

Other designers showing were Alice Palmer (who had the four finalists from BNTM walking) and Olanic.

There were presentations from Romina Karamanea, Cooperative Designs, Hemyca and Fashion Film Club.
The empty Catwalk Hall

Backstage -Where the models get ready before coming out

Sunday:
Sunday was a long day. Belle Sauvage was the first catwalk show. I didn't manage to see this show but I caught a preview of the outfits when they were backstage. Very nice prints.

Merit Award winner David Koma showed at 8pm (obviously not on time - approx half an hour late). I thought he was a well deserving winner as I loved each piece. Very well designed and very well made.

More later... William Tempest!

New York Fashion Week: Alexander Wang

I love Alexander Wang's SS10 collection.
You can see he is clearly influenced by American Sportswear.
There was sheer peek-a-boo layers mixed with ribbed socks, canvas and leather. It is, to say the least; simple, sexy and ofcourse, sporty.
Alexander Wang's front row guestlist was a whos who in fashion. Guests included Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Suzy Menkes of International Herald Tribune, Katie Grand of Love and the first lady of the New York, Diane von Furstenberg.

The Empty Cupboard

Its been pretty quite at Easy Living. The fashion cupboard is sooo empty, well it is to be expected... FASHION WEEK!
As you know an intern's main responsibility is to look after the returns. Whilst organising the Tod's returns, I came across these gorgeous, classic tassle loafers. I love Tod's with a huge passion!

A weekend of art and culture in London: Part One

London is a city full of life, diversity and culture. The average Londoner can rarely say that they spent time doing something to experience what the capital has to offer. London has a vast array of fun, creative, educating, cultural and unique activities that serve as an alternative to shopping; although I do love to shop. There are great galleries, museums, cafes, restaurants, parks etc to visit.

Today I went to check out The Saatchi Gallery with my boyfriend for a day of art and culture. The Saatchi Gallery on Kings Road (Chelsea) is currently exhibiting some amazing, unique and weird and wonderful works of art.

These are some of my favourite pieces:

I love this sculpture by Guerra De La Paz. It makes me think of how much fun it would be to own a vintage shop, rummaging through pieces of clothing from different eras. I also love the legs - slightly scary though!

Other pieces:

Mixed media college on paper

I know art isn't for everyone, but I throughly recommend The Saatchi Gallery as it is different. It isn't pretentious. There are pieces that I liked and others that I didn't.
And one of the bonuses of this gallery? It's free admission!
